This series will feature workshops from esteemed authors such as Cecilia Woloch, Jessica Zychowicz, and Ukrainian writer Tatiana Starostenko. Participants will explore various aspects of writing, from storytelling techniques to creative exercises for enhancing writing fluency.
To obtain a certificate, participants will need to:

Attend the sessions and complete the required tasks, including watching the YouTube video playlist by Natalie Sea.

Participate in the final session by presenting a short writing piece composed in teams of peers.

The training is free for TESOL-Ukraine members, while non-members can join for 300 UAH.

A certificate (50 UAH) will be awarded upon completion of the entire training.
The introductory workshop of the TESOL-Ukraine Teacher Training Series, titled “Mastering the Craft: Writing Techniques and Insights from Professional Authors,” was a warm and engaging start to the series. Participants from various backgrounds and regions gathered virtually to kick off the training. The session began with an introduction to the series, its objectives, and the upcoming workshops featuring renowned authors. After a brief overview, the attendees got acquainted through an icebreaker activity that encouraged everyone to share their motivations for joining the training and their experiences with storytelling and writing.
When Natalie isn’t writing, she enjoys playing Mario Kart, watching too much of Vince Gilligan’s TV series, and spending time with her mini Bernedoodle puppies, Finn and Ridley. Based in Central Utah, she is less than an hour away from the scenic Cottonwood Canyon, though skiing is a future goal—because it’s terrifying! Natalie edits books, coaches other writers, and creates educational content on YouTube.
Session 3: Word Games & Love Songs: Creative Writing Exercises to Enrich and Enliven the ESL Classroom
Led by Cecilia Woloch, this “hands-on” workshop will provide teachers with tools for using creative writing exercises in the ESL classroom to inspire their students to use English in fun, surprising, and uniquely expressive ways. It will also give the teachers an opportunity to explore and share their own creativity in a lively and supportive environment.
About Cecilia Woloch: Cecilia Woloch is an award-winning American poet and writer, and a celebrated teacher. For over thirty years, she has led creative writing workshops across the United States and around the world. She has served on the faculties of graduate and undergraduate creative writing programs in U.S. universities, spent a summer teaching at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China, and has twice been a Fulbright fellow at the University of Rzeszów in Poland. She has also conducted workshops for thousands of children and young people in schools and community centers, as well as in-service workshops for classroom teachers, workshops for participants in Elderhostel programs for senior citizens, for inmates at a prison for the criminally insane, and for residents at a shelter for homeless women and their children. She is the author of a novel and seven collections of poems.
Her writing has been translated and published in French, German, Polish, Bulgarian, Romanes, Ukrainian and Hebrew.
About Tetiana Starostenko: Tetiana STAROSTENKO, a Candidate of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation, O.M. Beketov National University of Urban Economy in Kharkiv; Associate Professor of English Philology Department, H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University, is the author of multiple academic articles, a single-author monograph and a collective monograph in both English-language and Slavic literature, and Methodology of teaching including the publications in journals indexed in Web of Science, Scopus and Index Copernicus databases.
International experience, research programs and internships include the participation in International Writing Program (Iowa, the USA, 2016 – writer in residence), Shanghai residence hosted by Shanghai Writers’ Association (Shanghai, China, 2018 – writer in residence), TARTU University CLIL course (Tartu, Narva, Estonia, 2021 – internship placement, certificate № No. 14929-20), Faculty of Philosophy, University of Novi Sad (Novi Sad, Serbia, 2023 – research program).
