Call for Applications: TESOL-Ukraine 2025 Professional Development Summer Institute

Dear colleagues,

TESOL-Ukraine warmly invites educators, language professionals, and creative practitioners to apply for the 2025 Professional Development Summer Institute, dedicated to exploring the power of creative writing in language education.

This year’s event will be led by the internationally acclaimed poet, teacher, and interdisciplinary artist Cecilia Woloch. A Fulbright Scholar and the author of six celebrated collections of poetry, Cecilia has led writing workshops across the U.S. and Europe, including in schools, universities, women’s prisons, and refugee communities. Her work bridges cultures and disciplines, and she brings a wealth of experience in using creative writing as a tool for personal voice, healing, and transformation—especially in challenging times.

This immersive program is designed to inspire and equip participants with innovative tools and strategies for crafting engaging, learner-centred writing lessons. Together, we will explore how storytelling, poetry, and imaginative writing can transform the language classroom into a space for expression, resilience, and creativity.

Participants will benefit from:

• Interactive workshops led by Cecilia Woloch and experienced educators

• Expert sessions on trauma-informed and inclusive creative practices

• Collaborative peer feedback and professional networking

• Hands-on lesson design grounded in real classroom application

Please Note:
This Summer Institute is being planned with the support of a grant application. While we are optimistic about securing funding, the final format of the event may be adjusted depending on the outcome. Regardless of the funding decision, selected participants will be asked to contribute a participation fee of 500 UAH (for TESOL-Ukraine Members) or 1000 UAH (for non-members) to help cover organizational costs. All shortlisted candidates will be notified of the confirmed event details shortly after the grant decision is announced.
